Linen Care
To fully appreciate the exceptional qualities of linen and maximise its durability, it's essential to follow proper care techniques for maintaining your linen items in optimal condition.
Washing
Linen can be hand washed, machine washed, or dry cleaned. For white linen, bleaching agents are suitable, but for colored linen, it’s best to use gentle detergents or mild soap to protect the fabric’s structure. Avoid chlorite-based bleaches, as they can damage the fabric. When washing colored linen in hard water, consider adding a softener, particularly for darker fabrics. Always separate white and dark linens to prevent color transfer. When machine washing, avoid overloading to allow the fabric to move freely and prevent creasing. If the linen contains other materials, account for their care requirements as well. Regardless of the method, thorough rinsing is key.
Dry cleaning is recommended for items like curtains and roman blinds to prevent shrinkage and maintain a polished finish. For stain removal, apply a detergent to a small, inconspicuous area first. Let it sit for 2–3 minutes before washing. If no changes occur, the detergent is safe for the fabric. Never apply detergents directly into the washing machine.
Drying
Linen can be dried naturally or with a machine. After washing, it wrinkles easily, so hang it immediately after wringing. Since linen dries quickly, avoid over-drying as it becomes difficult to iron.
Ironing
For best results, iron linen when it’s slightly damp. This makes the process easier and prevents the need for additional moisture. Always iron on the reverse side to protect the fabric from shine, excessive smoothing, or color fading. Use a hot iron with steam to remove wrinkles effectively. Once ironed, leave the items slightly damp and hang them in a cool, well-ventilated space to fully dry.
